The Thing About Family

       Families are made of many unique individuals. Because each person is different, it can be difficult to find your place in the group. I know for me I had an exceedingly difficult time finding how I fit into my family. I am sure a lot of people feel the same way. We all are trying to find themselves and their places in life. One of the challenges of being in a family is finding your place and role.      Every family member has a role in their family, and it is not quite as simple as you would think. We know of the common family roles: the protector, the funny one, the oldest child, the youngest, etc. I did not think about this in much detail until one day in class this week as we went over roles in the family.      Some of the roles we talked about were the family disrupter, the family mascot, the family mediator, the family comforter, peace maker, and the provoker.     Over the years, it seems like the family has become less important in our society. Birth rates are down, and divorce rates are up. The image of what the family looks like has changed as well. More and more people are living alone. What has happened to the family in our society?     The subject of family has become a very controversial topic. We tend to not talk about our beliefs and stances on families because we are worried about offending someone or breaking some sort of social standard. Well, here on my blog, I am going to be talking a lot about the science behind the family unit. I will also be adding some of my personal, religious beliefs. Please feel free to comment but keep it kind. One of the reasons we, as a society, don't talk a lot about controversial topics is because we don't always do it in a civil manner.
